- Ross Heywood - : Born in Invercargill in 1959. He is a talented mixed media artist working in bone, silver, limestone and also oil paintings. He started bone carving in 1984. Initially self taught, Ross went to the Wanganui Summer School of the Arts where internationally renowned carver Owen Mapp was teaching. In
1991 Ross did a jewellery apprenticeship after spending eight years
in the air force as a technician. In September 1996 he entered two
deer antler carvings in the Canadian Wild Life Carving championships
and was placed first and second in his category. In 1999 Owen Mapp
invited him to take part in a three month exhibition in Czechoslovakia,
sponsored by the New Zealand Embassy in Bonn, with eleven other
